Pluto, planet of obsessions, extremity and disintegrative overhauling. It is considered the modern ruler of Scorpio. Its natural house is the 8th house.

In the astrological chart, Pluto is considered a "transpersonal", an extramundane, spiritual planet, reflecting a function that is beyond one-self and beyond social structures. It does not constitute a part of the basic psychological make-up of the personality, but rather lends itself to whatever personal planet it is aspecting.

Pluto is the farthest and smallest of the astrological planets, indeed an icy planet. Pluto has quite an eccentric, highly inclined orbit around the sun. Although the farthest astrological planet from the sun, it does occasionally come closer to the sun than Neptune. Pluto is strongly influenced by the pulling power of its moon, Charon. In fact, the center of gravity between them both is outside of the body of Pluto! This is making them a funky type of binary system, kind of a constant power struggle. It is known that Pluto is elementally the most contrasted planet in the solar planet, and is more icy on the side that faces Charon.

Not much is known about Pluto, as it is so far out of reach, so "deep into space" that even the strongest modern telescopes are unable to get a clear view of its surface.

It is supersocietal in that it goes beyond the conventional framework of society, but also constructed upon it and naturally seeks influence thereupon. It is superintrinsic in that it seeks a much deeper intrinsic value than what society offers. It is sublime in that it is more spiritual and exalted by nature, but its motivations more difficult to understand.

Unlike Uranus, which is the other supersocietal function, it is much more realistic and critical. Its essence seeks to expand human consciousness through undermining of deficiencies in society's structure and perceptions, and demonstrating those weaknesses in a dramatic, provocative way.

Pluto represents a much higher spiritual principle. It is a type of light that ultimately serves to guide society, a purifying mechanism that shocks and removes elements which do not serve its spiritual evolution.

It is reflective of death-like processes where a person undergoes a very difficult, no holds barred change process, with the destination being a radical overhaul of the personality. This makes us deal with our worst fears and everything we have avoided dealing with as a result of these. This process can be more constructive in return charts and transits, however can be more problematic as an ingrained, constant element in the personality in which case it deeply complicates the personality and can introduce a certain unwholesome quality. In a more spiritually oriented chart the Plutonian process can be extremely beneficial to the soul.

Pluto influences within a personality give a lot of natural power, fearlessness, ruthlessness, desensitizing to anything but their goals, whatever these may be. It brings a deep, all-around transformative touch. It bestows extremism, a tendency for overkill, and often unconscious destructive tendencies in its natives, especially in those who do not embrace his goals consciously. True Plutonians are people who seek to prod society into transformation, and often not taking a no for an answer.

Whatever it touches in the chart it makes obsessive, extreme and single-minded. It needs a properly organized chart so that it knows what to latch on to, or else there may be trouble.

People with a permanent Pluto tend to be sexually voracious, though Mars' status should be examined as well. They tend to be secretive, so this may not be apparent to the naked eye.
